Planning permission for
new Community Hospital
Planning permission was granted on 27 May 2009 for South Petherton Community Hospital, a new £15m Centre of Excellence for stroke rehabilitation in Somerset. The new building, which will replace obsolete facilities on a rural site on the edge of South Petherton village, will include 24 inpatient beds, a health and wellbeing centre, therapies, diagnostics, wheelchair assessment unit and support functions.
The project has been developed through the NHS ProCure 21 process and will be the third community hospital that DKA have delivered with Laing O’Rourke for Somerset PCT. The project is expected to achieve a ‘very good’ rating under the new 2008 BREEAM for Healthcare and will include a biomass boiler.
